Serving Children, Changing Lives

OUR STORY

“Some things start with a phone call home” —This one started with a call to my uncle, Seeba.

My uncle, along with other locals, had been quietly supporting two orphanages in Ghana, one in Tamale and one in Accra, caring for muslim orphans who have no one.

When I told my friends about him, something sparked, and the room felt different. The three of us Myself, Fatemeh, and Luca, sat down, and the conversation went from admiration to “what can we actually do to help?” FAST!!

Seeba pointed us in the right direction and trusted us to help carry his work further than he could reach alone. That’s how S.J Blessing and Light Org was born. With the beginning initials (S.J) named after the man who inspired it all.

Our mission is to be a real blessing and light in the lives of underserved and underresourced children. Right now that means supporting the kids in “Seeba’s Orphanages” by focusing on our three pillars — Education, well-being, and oppurtunity. Through garnering food, clothes, healthcare, and all materials necessary to chase their future goals/opportunity and education.

WE HOPE TO EXPAND GLOBALLY, THIS IS ONLY THE BEGINNING!!!!

Materials for Education

For many Ghanaians living in Tamale and Accra, schools often don’t have the funds to supply the resources needed for their children to succeed. Underfunding means many schools lack access to clean water, functional toilets, and proper classrooms. The result has been a student body learning from underpaid teachers, outdated textbooks, and broken equipment. It’s these conditions that perpetuate the cycle of illiteracy, poverty, and low life expectancy. Recognizing the impact of a proper education, we realized the importance of working with school leaders, publishers, and other educational providers to ensure students have access to the educational resources necessary for them to succeed. By funding these efforts, we can reduce child mortality rates and equip students with a fighting chance to break the cycle of poverty that has plagued Ghana for generations.

Continuing growth and participation in opportunity

Many young Ghanaians possess incredible ambition and talent, yet lack the pathways, mentorship, and practical training needed to enter meaningful careers. Through our Opportunity pillar, we bridge this gap by connecting youth to internships, extracurricular activities, and youth enrichment programs like the local Cadet Corps, fire brigade initiatives, police cadet units, and customs and immigration youth divisions. By immersing our children in structured environments that build discipline, leadership, and professional skills, we empower the next generation to envision a career path, serve their communities, and step confidently into adulthood.

Support for the well-being of our children

For children growing up in orphanages, basic human necessities should never be a luxury. Far too many young lives in Ghana face daily struggles due to a lack of adequate healthcare, proper clothing, seasonal footwear, and essential hygiene supplies. When a child is sick or lacks basic comfort, their ability to learn, play, and grow is severely compromised. Our Well-Being pillar is dedicated to lifting this heavy burden from our 322 children by directly covering medical costs, purchasing quality clothes and shoes, and delivering regular supplies of fundamental necessities. By ensuring their physical health and emotional safety are secure, we give every child the dignity, warmth, and foundational care they need to thrive each day.

“WE cannot always build our future, but we can build our youth for the future.”
